Kumar Purnima / କୁମାର ପୂର୍ଣ୍ଣିମା

Kumar Purnima is an autumn festival celebrated on Ashwina Purnima across Odisha, marking the beginning of the holy month of Kartika and the worship of Goddess Lakshmi during Gajalakshmi Puja. Dedicated primarily to Lord Kartikeya (Kumar), the epitome of youthfulness and grace, the festival is observed by unmarried young women seeking handsome and righteous life partners. At dawn, girls perform Anjula Teka, offering Laja (puffed rice) and seasonal flowers to the rising Sun God after a ceremonial morning bath. Throughout the day, they observe a strict fast while wearing new traditional attire. In the evening, as the full moon rises, girls gather near the Tulsi Chaura to conduct Chanda Puja. The Moon God (Chandra) is offered Khaai-Chanda, a special ritual dish made from khaai, bananas, cottage cheese, coconut, sugar, and milk. Across coastal and central Odisha districts like Cuttack, Puri, Khordha, and Dhenkanal, girls enthusiastically engage in traditional games like Puchi Khela and sing traditional folk songs such as Kuanra Punei Janha Go.

କୁମାର ପୂର୍ଣ୍ଣିମା ହେଉଛି ଆଶ୍ୱିନ ପୂର୍ଣ୍ଣିମା ତିଥିରେ ସମଗ୍ର ଓଡ଼ିଶାରେ ପାଳିତ ହେଉଥିବା ଏକ ପ୍ରମୁଖ ଶରତକାଳୀନ ପର୍ବ। ଏହି ଦିନଠାରୁ ପବିତ୍ର କାର୍ତ୍ତିକ ମାସର ଆରମ୍ଭ ହେବା ସହ ଗଜଲକ୍ଷ୍ମୀ ପୂଜାର ଆରାଧନା ମଧ୍ୟ କରାଯାଏ। ସୁନ୍ଦର, ଗୁଣବାନ୍ ଓ ଧାର୍ମିକ ଜୀବନସାଥୀ ପାଇବା ଆଶାରେ ଅବିବାହିତା ଝିଅମାନେ ଭଗବାନ କାର୍ତ୍ତିକେୟ (କୁମାର)ଙ୍କୁ ସ୍ମରଣ କରି ଏହି ବ୍ରତ ପାଳନ କରନ୍ତି। ପ୍ରଭାତରୁ ନୂଆ ବସ୍ତ୍ର ପରିଧାନ କରି କନ୍ୟାମାନେ ‘ଅଞ୍ଜୁଳି ଟେକା’ ରୀତିରେ ଉଦିତ ସୂର୍ଯ୍ୟଦେବଙ୍କୁ ଖୋଇ, ଲିଆ ଓ ସଦ୍ୟ ଫୁଲ ଅର୍ପଣ କରନ୍ତି। ଦିନସାରା ନିର୍ଜଳା ଉପବାସ ରହି ସନ୍ଧ୍ୟାରେ ଚନ୍ଦ୍ରୋଦୟ ସମୟରେ ତୁଳସୀ ଚଉରା ନିକଟରେ ‘ଚାନ୍ଦ ପୂଜା’ କରନ୍ତି। ଚନ୍ଦ୍ରଦେବଙ୍କୁ ‘ଖୋଇ-ଚାନ୍ଦ’ (ଖୋଇ, କଦଳୀ, ଛେନା, ନଡ଼ିଆ ଓ କ୍ଷୀରରେ ତିଆରି ନୈବେଦ୍ୟ) ଭୋଗ ଲଗାଯାଏ। କଟକ, ପୁରୀ, ଖୋର୍ଦ୍ଧା, ଢେଙ୍କାନାଳ, ବାଲେଶ୍ୱର ପ୍ରଭୃତି ଜିଲ୍ଲାରେ ପାରମ୍ପରିକ ‘ପୁଚି ଖେଳ’ ଏବଂ ‘କୁଆଁର ପୁଣେଇ ଜାହ୍ନ ଗୋ’ ଭଳି ଲୋକଗୀତ ଗାଇ ଝିଅମାନେ ଏହି ଉତ୍ସବକୁ ଅତ୍ୟନ୍ତ ଆନନ୍ଦର ସହ ପାଳନ କରନ୍ତି।
