Diwali & Lakshmi Puja / ଦୀପାବଳୀ ଓ ଲକ୍ଷ୍ମୀ ପୂଜା

Diwali, known as Deepabali in Odisha, is celebrated on Kartika Amavasya with deep religious and cultural fervor. The festival marks the triumph of light over darkness and good over evil, dedicated to the worship of Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Ganesha for wealth, health, and prosperity. Homes and temples across Odisha are decorated with oil lamps (dipa), colorful rangoli (Jhoti/Muruja), and marigold flowers.

A unique and deeply sacred Odia tradition observed on this day is Bada Badua Daka (Paya Shraddha). Families gather in the evening near the Tulsi Chaura or open courtyards to burn bundles of dried jute sticks called Kaunria Kathi. The lit flame guides the ancestral spirits (pitrus) back to heaven. Devotees chant the famous traditional verse: "Bada Badua Ho, Andharare Aasa, Aaloare Jao, Mahaprasad Khai Baisipahache Thao" (O forefathers, come in darkness and return in light, partake in Mahaprasad and reside on the 22 steps of Puri Srimandir).

Simultaneously, Deepanwita Lakshmi Puja is performed in households, while grand Shyama Kali Puja pandals are erected across major cities like Cuttack, Bhadrak, and Rourkela. Devotees offer sweets, light firecrackers, and visit Puri Srimandir to seek blessings from Lord Jagannath on this holy night.

ଓଡ଼ିଶାରେ ଦୀପାବଳୀ କାର୍ତ୍ତିକ ଅମାବାସ୍ୟା ତିଥିରେ ଅତ୍ୟନ୍ତ ଆନନ୍ଦ ଓ ନିଷ୍ଠାର ସହ ପାଳନ କରାଯାଏ। ଏହି ପବିତ୍ର ଆଲୋକର ପର୍ବ ଅଜ୍ଞାନ ଓ ଅନ୍ଧକାର ଉପରେ ଜ୍ଞାନ ଓ ଆଲୋକର ବିଜୟର ପ୍ରତୀକ। ଏହି ଦିନ ଧନ, ସମୃଦ୍ଧି ଓ ସୁଖ-ଶାନ୍ତି କାମନା କରି ଗୃହେ ଗୃହେ ଧନଦାତ୍ରୀ ଦେବୀ ଲକ୍ଷ୍ମୀ ଓ ବିଘ୍ନନାଶକ ଗଣେଶଙ୍କ ଆରାଧନା କରାଯାଏ। ଘରଦ୍ୱାର ଓ ଠାକୁରଘର ସୁନ୍ଦର ଝୋଟି-ମୁରୁଜ, ଫୁଲ ମାଳ ଓ ମୃତ୍ତିକା ଦୀପରେ ଆଲୋକିତ ହୁଏ।

ଦୀପାବଳୀ ସନ୍ଧ୍ୟାରେ ଓଡ଼ିଶାରେ ଏକ ଅନନ୍ୟ ପାରମ୍ପରିକ ରୀତି ‘ବଡ଼ବଡ଼ୁଆ ଡାକ’ (ପାୟ ଶ୍ରାଦ୍ଧ) ଅନୁଷ୍ଠିତ ହୁଏ। ପରିବାରର ସଦସ୍ୟମାନେ ତୁଳସୀ ଚଉରା ନିକଟରେ ଏକତ୍ରିତ ହୋଇ କଉଁରିଆ କାଠି ବିଣ୍ଡାରେ ନିଆଁ ଲଗାଇ ଆକାଶ ଆଡ଼କୁ ଦେଖାଇ ନିଜର ପିତୃପୁରୁଷମାନଙ୍କୁ ସ୍ୱର୍ଗଲୋକକୁ ବିଦାୟ ଜଣାନ୍ତି। ଏହି ସମୟରେ “ବଡ଼ବଡ଼ୁଆ ହୋ, ଅନ୍ଧାରରେ ଆସ, ଆଲୋଅରେ ଯାଓ, ମହାପ୍ରସାଦ ଖାଇ ବାଇଶି ପାହାଚେ ଥାଓ” ଗୀତ ଗାନ କରାଯାଏ।

ଏହି ତିଥିରେ ଗୃହରେ ଦୀପାନ୍ୱିତା ଲକ୍ଷ୍ମୀ ପୂଜା ସହ ସମଗ୍ର ରାଜ୍ୟରେ ଶ୍ୟାମା କାଳୀ ପୂଜା ମଧ୍ୟ ଅନୁଷ୍ଠିତ ହୁଏ। କଟକ, ଭଦ୍ରକ, ରାଉରକେଲା ଆଦି ସହରରେ ଆକର୍ଷଣୀୟ ମେଢ଼ ଓ ତୋରଣ ନିର୍ମାଣ କରାଯାଇ ମା’ କାଳୀଙ୍କ ମୃଣ୍ମୟୀ ପ୍ରତିମା ପୂଜା ପାଆନ୍ତି। ଲୋକମାନେ ବାଣ ଫୁଟାଇ, ମିଷ୍ଟାନ୍ନ ବାଣ୍ଟି ଏବଂ ପୁରୀ ଶ୍ରୀମନ୍ଦିରରେ ମହାପ୍ରଭୁ ଶ୍ରୀଜଗନ୍ନାଥଙ୍କ ଦର୍ଶନ କରି ପ୍ରସାଦ ସେବନ କରନ୍ତି।
