Kantilo Nilamadhab Temple is a historic Vaishnavite shrine located on Brahmadri or Bhrigu Hills beside the Mahanadi River at Kantilo in Nayagarh district, Odisha. The temple is regarded as the original seat of Lord Nilamadhab, the legendary precursor to Lord Jagannath of Puri, giving the shrine an important place in Odia Jagannath culture.

Best Time to Visit

October to March is the best season to visit Kantilo Nilamadhab Temple because the weather is cooler and more suitable for sightseeing around the river and hill.

Early morning, particularly between 5:30 AM and 8:00 AM, is suitable for a temple visit. The evening period from about 4:30 PM to 6:30 PM is suitable for experiencing the sunset surroundings.

Summer from March to June can be hot and humid, with temperatures of approximately 32°C–42°C. The monsoon season from July to September brings moderate to heavy rainfall, which can make the temple steps slippery. Winter temperatures generally range from 12°C to 28°C.

Visitor Timings & Entry Information

The temple is open daily from 5:00 AM to 2:00 PM and 3:00 PM to 10:00 PM. Entry is free, with no ticket required.

Traditional or modest conservative clothing is recommended. Photography and videography are prohibited inside the inner sanctum and temple interior but are allowed in surrounding outdoor areas and river viewpoints.

Leather goods, tobacco and electronic devices are prohibited inside the main sanctum. Restrictions on non-Hindu entry apply to the core sanctum, while non-Hindu visitors can visit the hill terraces and outer grounds.
